LIFE BEFORE CRUISING

Tim and I met in Palma de Mallorca. We were both in the super yacht industry at the time. He had been a super yacht Captain for the best part of 25 years and I was looking for another job on a super yacht.

Of all the places I was going to meet my future husband, it was NEVER going to be in a bar! My wishlist (yep, I'm a list person and had 10 points on my list of what I was looking for in a future husband…and a Captain with a 'babe' in every port wasn’t one of them!). 

Turns out, he wasn’t one of  ‘those’ Captains and I fell for him pretty quickly…that is, after he offered me a job on the yacht he was the Captain of!

Long story made very short: He hired me, we fell in love, got married, had 2 kids, left the Super yacht world to move ashore and focus on homebuilding and careers and 10 years later we bought a boat and went sailing!

Longer version: We did all the things that society deems the right things to do. We got married and had 2 kids. We worked very hard at achieving what society deems as success and we lived what some people feel is a lovely life.

We realised that Tim was working so much that he was missing out on being with the kids. Society nowadays deems that to be normal and ok.

We weren't that happy with what society deemed so we decided to drop out of normal society for a while and live a more simple life.

Our choice was to do it on a sailboat and travel part of the world for a while. Thanks to a very special and understanding employer and good friend, Tim was able to continue working remotely on a part time basis.

It isn't always easy and it isn't always simple and it certainly doesn't include much luxury! But we do have that often illusive luxury of having some time with our kids before they grow up as well as the luxury of experiencing some far flung places and cultures.

Our life has changed in so many ways. Some good, some not so good, but regardless of what's happening, we are doing it all together. The good, the bad and the amazing. We're together. And that's why we do this.
